Dear Readers,

When I fly home from a trip, when the familiar blue-grey roiling waters off the Boston Harbor give way to city skyline and the busy suburbs of Winthrop, I know I’m home. Boston’s Logan Airport may be widely hated, but to me it’s home base. I sometimes find myself too involved and wholly absorbed in the pursuits and expectations of everyday life while I’m away at school. I don’t even realize until I find myself at home on holidays! When I have my toes in the grass outside, watching the wind in the trees, eating one of my mom’s recipes, I feel something that’s the perfect opposite of homesick. Should we make a word for that? “Homewell”? As I’m getting older, I have begun to realize the importance of home through the joy of returning to that familiar place. It’s a sort of resonance upon returning; when my flight starts to approach the airspace of Logan Airport, and I see those familiar buildings, I feel like a gong of recalibration has been gonged. It’s a sense of synergy and recognition, that this is the place where I’ve been raised and which I know so well. I used to think it was a sign of weakness to ache for that return periodically. That can’t be farther from the truth. It’s universal to seek that comfort. This season, I encourage our dear readers to embrace what makes you feel at home.
