Dear Readers,

Here we are, at the end of my first academic year away from home. A lot has happened and I’m finally feeling like my feet are on the ground and I know what I’m doing. But only slightly. With every choice I make I feel a burst of new doors opening and new questions arising. But I’m really fortunate that I can always turn to others with those questions. It’s essential to have mentors and but so hard to find them!

What I’m most excited for in the summer ahead is an opportunity to serve in my home community. With the inundation of schoolwork during the year, it can be hard to make time to remember WHY all of this work is happening. For me, it’s medicine- but the realities of clinical service feel very far away from the chemistry classroom, as it were. It’s not always easy to tackle organic chem with the understanding that this is paving the way for the excellent medical care I hope to provide down the line. Even so- there’s a magic unique to this academic learning as well; there’s something awesome about trudging through an assignment and then suddenly feeling the “Eureka!”, the lightbulb! Overall, though, I’m just glad I’m learning to mesh real life with my studies. Because there’s a long way to go!

Love,

Editor Jaanu
