Ediotorial – July 2024

Dear Readers,

Having had some time to breathe away from the rigor of daily school, I have spent a few weeks now reflecting about the past year away from home. Specifically, I’ve been reflecting on differences in our lives.

My classmates have dispersed, literally, to every corner of the world.

While you’re surrounded by friends, during a phase of life like college, when everyone is doing something similar with a similar goal in mind (graduation), it can feel hard to distinguish yourself or break away from the pack. I know many people who have a set routine of activities that are expected of them- and they follow this routine week in and week out, weekday and weekend alike. The most fulfilling academic experiences I’ve had this year happened because I did something that I loved authentically without trying to fit the mold. As many of younger my high school friends are headed off to college soon, including Navin, I wanted to share that knowledge. The message has been hammered home during my recent rereading of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, an amazing book advocating for financial literacy by Robert Kiyosaki. He found success by choosing to be different. There’s a lot to be gained by carving your own path, whether or not that’s the well-beaten one! On senior skip day, my mentor Tim put it best: well-behaved women rarely make history.

Love,

Editor Jaanu
