Does food taste better when you close your eyes?

Dear Clever Cali,
Does food taste better when you close your eyes?
Sincerely,
Anonymous from Boston
Dear Anonymous,
This is an interesting question and I think I see where you’re coming from. By the way, Boston is my favorite city on the Eastern seaboard. There isn’t much official research to answer this question, but it’s still worth considering carefully. Taste is a multi-sensory experience and some celebrity chefs, like Ina Garten, insist that you taste with your eyes before you actually eat something. I tried eating a few snacks with my eyes closed. I think I felt the taste more acutely because, without looking around or taking in other visual stimuli I was fully concentrating on the taste of the snack.

Dear Clever Cali,
Why do bridges freeze faster than other roads? Is it because they’re over water?
Sincerely,
Driver Deirdre
Dear Driver Deirdre,
Bridges tend to be made of heat conducting substances like steel and concrete- which freeze faster than asphalt. Great observation!
